Most of the blog I visited are equipped with an orange square RSS feed logo at their top right of the blog. It looks something like this -

Never really pay much attention to it. And don’t really understand what it is all about. Until I realize how powerful it is. As according to Wikipedia, it mean - RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that’s easier than checking them manually. Now all my favored information will come to me automatically. And I can be updated instantly once any new post is posted.

All feed logo looks the same, until I discover a new feature in Feedburner.com.

It is call ‘Headline Animator’. It actually flashes your entire post headline in the small box. I have installed it, just look at the right side of my blog.

The widget is available at www.feedburner.com.

One very good thing about this widget is it capture people attention. It can make people stay longer at your blog. So that you’ll have more times to promote your service to them.

Below is a detail simple instruction, especially for my readers/visitors who need some extra instruction on how to install it.

1. Click on the link to log into www.feedburner.com
2. Once you are in, click on your ‘feed‘
3. Click on the ‘publicize‘ tab
4. Click on ‘Headline Animator‘
5. Then you can start playing with the selection.
6. Once you are happy, click on ‘Activate’
7. Next you will see 2 red square under your newly created ‘feed‘
8. Select the kind of platform you are using, for example ‘wordpress.com‘ from - ‘Add to MySpace, Typepad, etc’
9. a new window will pop up,
10. For visual effect, ‘uncheck‘ the ‘include a “Grab This” Link
11. Copy all the code inside the box
12. Paste it into one of your text box in your wp-admin
13. Save changes.

You are done.

Do you know what is the duration that visitor stay in your blog/site? The answer will depend on how big the visitor’s monitor is. Funny?

The reason is very simple, most of the visitor are ’surfing’ the web, and when they stumble upon any blog/site. Normally they will take 1-3 seconds to decide to ’surf in’ or ’surf out’ of your blog/site.

Question - what can they see in those 1-3 seconds? Well, the bigger the visitor’s monitor, the more things the visitor sees it. Relax.. We are not going to promote larger monitor here. Regardless of the size of the monitor, the ‘header’ is always the 1st to appear. Base on this fact, it is very important to maximize the top space of your blog/site. That is the 1st things that visitor see, and whatever information you put up there, it must be to your advantage.

Normally the information is very action base. You want the visitor to take action. You want the visitor to do what you ‘tell’ them to do. A gentler approach is encouraged. We all know that 1st impression last. How well you do it will determine how much longer you can retain them.

The objective is to ‘get the visitor in’, because one of the human behaviors is ‘since I am here, must well finding out more’.

If your header has successfully attracted in the visitor, then you be able to promote your service in your content.

Personally I am using a 15” monitor, and Firefox browser. Since Firefox can let me customize to my preference. I actually installed quite a fair bit of ‘add-on’ and toolbars – so that everything is fast and convenient for me. This is what I see in my monitor –

Since I have some extra stuff in my browser, my viewing space is no longer 15”, so when I surf to a site that is full of graphic, this is what I see –

Yes you are right; I spend less then 1 second there.
If you are like me, can’t leave without those add-ons and toolbars, and yet you want to have the maximum viewing while surfing. There is a ‘short cut’ for you. “F11” on your keyboard. Tap the ‘F11” once and you be enjoying a full screen mode. Tap it again, you be back to your setting. You got to try it to know what am I talking about.

“There are always a better way of doing things”, this is one of the statements I use to remind myself to stay simple.

How I get this statement, it actually from the follow ‘fact’ – “If you have a difficult task, assign it to a lazy person. Most likely you will be amazed by how efficient and effective it turns out into”.

I have been sharing and helping other to enjoy a better way of using the internet, and making it as user friendly as possible.

Most of the knowledge is self-learned from the disaster I created, and from all the ‘help line’ I found. The knowledge accumulated has enabled me to reach out to other. Most of the time the solution are just a few clicks away. My secret is very simple, just be daring enough to poke on it and turn it into your advantage.

Can’t remember when I started using Firefox browser, but since then it really make my life easy. Especially the tabbed feature, can’t live without it. But nothing is perfect, it has crash on me for a few time, reason is that I ‘poke it’ too much.

It has been constantly upgraded and it has more and more feature and add-on. That is something to look forward too. Because every time it upgrade, it mean more secure, faster, friendlier and many more.

I’ll be starting to share the lazy busy way of using some internet tool, Firefox browser and Wordpress will be the first to start with.

Ever heard of the “77 ways of making money online”? It amazes me when I hear that. What I known now is just good enough to generate result for me. What if I master all the 77 ways… hmm… looking forward for the day to come now.

It kind of funny that people actually pays you to blog and pays you to give comments. Anybody can be qualified. Some even pay you higher if you or your site is popular.

Most of the people were thinking of making big money in the shortest possible timing. Matter of fact, chances are very slim. The real money actually comes from the accumulations of small money. Let me ask you a question, is it easy to ask 1 person for a $1000 or ask 10 persons for $100? You get the point?

Backup are so useless when not in use, it take up space and make you worry. Since my data need to be backup, then what about my backup’s data. Isn’t it needed to be backup too?

Everybody know the important of doing backup our data, yet most of them don’t practice it. Then when will be the best time to do the backup? There is a saying - people always do backup at the following day after they lost it. The good thing about it is that there isn’t much to be backup, so lesser work to be done.

Sometime ago, I was chatting with an IT expert, he is a die hard fans of LUNIX. He owned about 2.5Tb of data in 5 HDDs (Hard Disk Drive). In the event of one HDD crash, the backup system he used is capable of retrieve back all his data from the remaining 4 HDDs. Once the HDD is replaced, he will get back his 100% data again. What a cool system.

When you keep seeing post, statement and articles regarding backing data. It means a ‘sign’ to take action to do it asap. I found this post from http://www.atomicbloggingsecret.com/very informative and useful, enjoy.

Remember to Backup your Files.

Many newbies are unaware of the importance of backing up files. Backups should be done once a week,fortnight or at a higher frequency if you are posting daily. Even if you think the chances of your site getting hacked is remote, just play it safe. You never know when that butter-finger of yours one fine day may decide to delete some postings or files.

A fellow blogger whose web hosting company migrated to another server completed the maintenance work minus a week postings which was significant since sometimes he blogs more than once daily. After alot of hard work himself he managed to restore the missing blogs using his backup files.

Hostgator is one of the reliable web hosting companies in the market which I am comfortable with.

Here is a simple way of backing up your file in your cpanel account which will backup the entire site.

Go to your cpanel – http://www.yourwebsitename.com/cpanel

• - In the main screen click on Backups
• - Click on the link (Generate/Download a full Backup)
• - “Backup Destination” label will show “Home Directory“
• - Make sure your email that is displayed is up-to-date.
• - Click on “Generate Backup“

If you are on WordPress and do not have cpanel install the WP backup plugin.

• Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/installation and click on Download Plugin.
• Open the zip file and extract wp-db-backup.php and upload it into /wp-content/ using filezilla or other ftp program which you may already have.
• Back to your WordPress site and activate the plugin under the Plugins menu.
• Next click the Manage menu and then click on Backup where you schedule your backups. Note any error messages prompted and act upon it for a successful backup.

Finally I am back on my blog again, after a long period of reaching out for other people’s online stuff.

Helping other through my blog was the initial intention, being a ‘helpful hands-on person’ always brings me away from my intention.

After the breakaway from my blog, reading all my ex post should be able to refresh my memory. But the quantity of cobweb were more then my contents bring be back to the reality. Suddenly it remind me of a question –

If you went to a salon for hair cut, inside the shop there are two barbers. Both of them are well dress, except that their hair style is difference. The 1st barber’s hair is neat and tidy, and the 2nd barber’s hair is not so neat and tidy.
Question - which one will you choose to service you?

Appearances seem to be the ‘thing’ we use for making our decision. Most of the time, we are willing to discount the quality for appearance. As long as it looks nice, we can come out a few reasons to support our decision. Even those it might not make much sense.

Back to the barber’s question.

In normal situation, both barbers will help each other to do their hair. So in this case, the one with the best skill is the one with a bad hair style.

I have been sharing with some friends to use blogging as an entry level to make some money on the internet. It is easy to start and the results are faster. Best of all is you can be yourself in your blog.

One of the replies I receive is that “my trainer (mentor) is knowledgeable, but not ‘attractive’ enough for her to learn form him.” I am perfectly fine with the answer; it is not a right or wrong situation here.

The results that I learn from my mentor have enabled me to help other. And it also makes me an icon for other to look for when they encounter a particular area in blogging. All this happen because I have chosen quality over appearance sometime ago.

The quality is not the finest yet, it is currently going through the refining process. It will take a while before it complete, but it is worth waiting for when you know it inside you that what it will become….

It is the time of the year again… - Moon Cake Festival, aka Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Moon Cake Festival is on the 15th of the 8th lunar month, this year is on the 25th of September 2007.

It is an occasion for family reunions. Some of the common activities after sunset are families and lovers get together to watch the full moon, eat moon cakes, and Children will carry their brightly lighted, electronic lanterns running around the park.

I used to carry lantern in my early childhood times, but the lanterns can’t last me for long. Reasons being that at that time, the lanterns are made of paper, and it housed a lighted candle in it. Somehow the lanterns and the candle don’t get very well together. They always ended their life in a fatal accident. What follow is my loud expression of sadness.

Today is the ideal time to see the fullest and brightest moon of the year. To all my friends under the same moon, may you too enjoy the wonder of reunions and the delicious, fancy looking moon cake… cheer ^_^

It is a wonderful experience to be involved in Alvin Phang’s “Traffic Mastery Workshop”, not as a student but of assistance to him. Somewhere late March, I was once seated behind, at the end of a small classroom, learning “Blog Cash Guide”, now better known as Atomic Blogging.
This 3 full day course is packed with new and updated information and I witnessed these new contents being ‘downloaded’ to the ‘Hard Disk’ (mind) of the students. Apparently, all the ‘CPUs’ (brains of the student) process the data at different rates. Though most of them experienced information overload, the situation was resolved in no time with help and support rendered by the assistants.

The best part of today is that some of the assistants who were gathering at the back of the classroom started exchanging experiences. The excitement grew and stirred a little commotion – a few of the students were eavesdropping our conversations. How did we know? They asked us during break time =)

Recently one of my trainers had just gotten himself a dog from the SPCA. He is so happy about it that he have list down a complete list of training program for it.

My trainer happens to be the next up and coming Guru in Internet Marketing (watch out world!), specializing in blogging. (His way of blogging is capable of bring in him 5 figure income, and it is still growing ^_^)

Now back to the dog, we were joking with him that blogging should be one of the item in his training list.

No doubt for his skill and capability to get it done, just that there should be a training program for himself –— ‘decoding’ his dog language…
